Like many welder/fabricator types, Giles MacMurchie got his start at metal shop in high school.  But Giles wanted excellence, so he worked for his welding certification and then completed the four-year apprenticeship with the Boilermakers and advanced to journey level.  “The union life worked for me before I became a Dad.  I wanted to be there for my daughter every day, and I couldn’t do that and continually travel on the road for jobs.  I give it all up for the people who are traveling.  This nation owes a huge debt of gratitude and more to those union workers.  Now, I enjoy working in my shop and helping creative, enterprising people make their ideas become reality.  I build such a wide variety of projects that it’s tough to define what I do.  Railings, green houses, countertops, brackets, gates, soccer goals, smokers, mailboxes, garden tools, security panels for windows and gas tanks, storage bins, restaurant grade implements and more.  I’ve got to be excited every time the phone rings, because there just is no end to what people want to do with steel.  I’m blessed!”

Giles’ construction experience started when he was a young boy, working alongside his father, and old-world cabinet builder, Scott MacMurchie.  “I learned a lot from those years of working with my Dad”.  Giles’ knowledge of the broad spectrum of construction trades enables him to anticipate practical issues and make things the way they need to be.  “I am not an expert at, say, concrete, electical or plumbing.  But I’ve done enough of those things and I’ve been inside those aspects of big jobs.  I can see where the job can get side-tracked because of some detail.  If I can anticipate an issue and adjust for it at the fabrication end, it will save money and time.  I’ve been a general contractor, so I grasp the cost side of the job.”
